Vaccinations are known to be oneof the greatest inventions in modern day history. The eradication andprevention of some of the most harmful and deadly diseases is primarily fromthe safeness and effectiveness of vaccines.  Two hundred years ago, English physicianEdward Jenner invented a small pox vaccine which would additionally be noted tosave approximately five million lives a year world- wide (Bellamy, Nakajima). Thismajor and life- saving immunization has helped with the development of othervaccines such as diphtheria, tetanus, yellow fever, whopping cough, polio, andmeasles. The creation of these immunizations has led to advances in technology andcontributes to helping global health by improving the quality of vaccines. Theyhave also positively influenced the developing aspect of medical regions. Vaccinatingchildren is such a simple and fundamental task that could prevent possibleoutcomes in the future and increase life expectancy.

Although fewer people arechoosing to vaccinate, the need for protecting children though immunizationsfrom dangerous and potentially deadly diseases should be more strictlyenforced. The enforcement of vaccinationsand children should be more closely regulated for three main reasons. The firstreason is that it protects people from death and deadly diseases. The second reasonis that it saves families time and money. The final reason why vaccinating shouldbe mandatory is mainly because it prevents the risk of contracting serious andpreventable diseases while traveling. Additionally, vaccinatingdecreases the risk of getting deadly diseases and can put a stop to death.Advances in medical science including improvement of the formulations of vaccinesand genetic engineering have increased the overall quality of the vaccinationtremendously. Genetic engineering is defined as a group of techniques ofgenetics that alters the original make up of an organism’s DNA usingbiotechnology.

Using pathogens with this kind of engineering creates a safervaccine rather than using a conventional technique (Ghoosh).  By doing this, it is opening a new target totake a closer look at new and developing diseases. Another major advancement forimmunizations was adjuvants. Adjuvants are added ingredients to vaccines whichare used to improve the body’s immune system and to enhance its resistance to adisease. Although most adjuvants were taken out of vaccines, two remain whichare aluminum/ aluminum salts and Monophophoryl lipid A.  To increase technology adjuvants will alwaysneed to be present.

An additional way vaccines are improving is the way theyare being delivered to the patient. Instead of being injected via needle, researchesand scientist are already providing some vaccines and immunizations by mucosaldelivery. The live, attenuated influenza vaccine Flu Mist is given as a nasalspray, and the rotavirus vaccine, licensed in the U.S in 2006, is deliveredorally (McCullers, Dunn).  Researches arealso taking a closer to look to see if this kind of delivery could help preventagainst HIV infection and tuberculosis. Rapid advances are changing the waydoctors, pharmacists, and health care professionals are looking at the progressand advancement of vaccines which promotes a greater reasoning on why peopleshould choose to vaccinate.             Furthermore,vaccine schedule and a combination of vaccines have been researched to be safeand effective in strengthening the immune system. By sticking to a specific schedule,it ensures the safety and effectiveness is much more likely that not remainingup to date with vaccines.

 Leavingout shots or spreading out the shot schedule puts patients at higher risks ofcontracting diseases during that time as well. Numerous people can be at riskif shots are delayed such as babies who are too young to be fully vaccinated, peoplewith weakened immune systems due to cancer and even children in the samecommunity or play groups( Tetreault). “Recent outbreaks and deaths amongchildren around the world from mumps, to measles, to whopping cough are allproof that reduced vaccination rates increase exposure and disease risk. Beforevaccines, many children died as a result of these diseases, but this no longerhas to be the case; these diseases can now be prevented with vaccinations.
