One of things that has caused controversy over the years has been “Gay Marriage”. But Gay Marriage itself Isn’t the only thing causing furor of a debate. In the United States, 13 states allow same-sex marriage but Homosexual couples married In those states are still facing obstacles when It comes to becoming parents through adoption. Some states allow It, some states ban It. Not only are they fighting their way to be viewed as an equal marriage with the same rights a Heterosexual couple have, but many claim they should also have the right to adopt thus giving adopted children a cure emotional and stable home making such adoptions ethical.Adoptions by gay couples is ethical because they have the right to be deemed and considered as a loving family Just like any other family.
Homosexual couples, certainly those offering themselves as adoptive parents, form relationships that many argue are more stable than many Heterosexual marriages. There are millions of orphans and making gay adoption legal will allow us to help these children and there is a huge shortage of adoptive parents here In the US. The “family’, whether gay or straight, is better than the foster-care system. In a world where there are so many orphaned children, every child should have the right of a parent regardless of his/her parent’s sexual- orientation because It Is In the child’s best Interest to Glenn this child the right to a family. According to Congressional Coalition of Adoption Institute or CIA , “In the U. S.
400,540 children are living without permanent families in the foster care system. 1 1 5,000 of these children are eligible for adoption, but nearly 40% of these children will wait over three years in foster care before being adopted. ” Also, many children are taken away by the Dept. Child Services from Heterosexual households since the parents themselves are the perpetrators of child abuse such as neglect, physical abuse, and sexual abuse. According to Child Welfare Information online site “Most States define perpetrators of child abuse and neglect as parents and other caregivers (such as relatives, babysitters, and foster parents) who have harmed a child in their care.
” The Week Online Article states “In an era when many children are raised by single parents, barring gay men and lesbians from becoming parents Is discrimination, based on sexual orientation”.If many states have already given authority to validate such marriages equally as traditional marriages, why aren’t they being given the opportunity to provide a loving household for a needy child? These children face great disadvantages such as lower educational achievements, poor behavior and low self-esteem in a foster care system. The fact is that Homosexual parents can provide loving homes and raise well-balanced children to adulthood. Each Walls who has been raised by two mothers and is a voice/activist for gay marriage legislature stated “l think every child deserves a family as loving and committed as mine.
Because the sense of family comes from the commitment we make to each other to work through the hard times so we can enjoy the good ones. It comes from the love that binds us; that’s what makes a family”. On the other hand, some argue that Gay Adoption Is unethical because a child should always be raised by a man and a woman of a “traditional marriage” household. Many argue that In order “to grow up to be well-balanced adults, children need role models of both girls without a father/mother household tend to under-achieve and be less successful by developing a low self-esteem, and being victims to bullying.Homosexual parent households affects children’s development major when they see their friends’ parents are different from his/her own parents. This can play a long term or permanent psychological effect on these children if not treated properly leading to suicide as identity issues.
According to Robert Lopez, whom has voiced against Gay Parents and who grew on a lesbian marriage household stated “My home life was not traditional nor conventional. I suffered because of it, in ways that are difficult for sociologists to index”. Mr..Lopez also states “My peers learned all the unwritten rules of decorum and body language in their homes; they understood what Nas appropriate to say in certain settings and what wasn’t; they learned both traditionally masculine and traditionally feminine social mechanisms”. A two straight parent heterosexual household is self-evident or unquestionable in today’s society making such marriages deemed as “normal”.
Many Religious groups and organizations claim that the Fifth Commandment in the Bible Exodus 20:12 invokes Honor thy father and mother’ as well. Many Divine Command Theorists support this because according to DUCT whatever God commands in the bible should be done per say. Others argue that if nature wanted homosexual couples to have kids, they would have been able to reproduce between them therefore making these kind of relationships “Unnatural, or against nature” giving the absolute version of “Natural Law’ supporting a teleological morality view. Homosexual people have the lack of acceptance and is morally wrong to be gay religious leaders say. They do not accept themselves the way they are and want to be something different, so what make them think they can raise a kid? Religious groups argue. Also, the Bible in the Old Testament clearly states that the act of homosexuality is “Abomination” Leviticus 0:13.
Children raised by gay parents are offered only one partnership model and are therefore more likely to be gay. If a sufficiently large minority of society simply believe gay parenting is wrong then the practice should not be enforced at all. Many consider the USA a “Christian” country therefore traditional marriage values remain based on Christian teachings and some areas of such must not be changed. I personally do not support the argument that Homosexuality is wrong and and “that offenders (gays) should be stoned or put to death” like the bible says. Instead, I am in favor of adoption by Gay couples because that is the right thing to do in today’s society, at least here in the United States. One must ask oneself and reflect what is better for a orphaned child’s best interest? Is it ethical or unethical to give a child an opportunity to be with loving parent/parents or not provide those parents at all? It is fact that in today’s society, gay people are everywhere which include teachers, doctors, politicians, scientists, friends and family. Being gay and open about it Introit punishment is culturally accepted mostly now in the United States.
Just the act that homosexuals have to fight to become legal parents highlights the value of Nat being a parent really has. Heterosexual people usually overlook that value because parenthood is obviously common in heterosexual households.Regardless of “hat people believe, homosexuals have love in their hearts Just like anyone else. There is no study in existence nor any evidence that a gay couple are unable to love a child and raise a child with his or her best interest at heart. Nor, does this doesn’t mean that a gay couple will raise their baby with perversion, which is Just a stereotype.
Homosexuals who adopt children will always want that child and it will never be a surprise unlike many Heterosexual households where babies are born all the time by “accident” or due to poor contraception. This means that financial stability is almost guaranteed in a gay household as well as emotional acceptance of the child versus those children who are being born into a family that did not expect them. This isn’t necessarily always a bad thing but you can see how that could have a negative connotation in a child’s life in some traditional households.
The child can tend to feel unwanted, not to mention the financial instability that usually companies an unplanned child giving this child a harder life. I don’t really think anyone can really say that allowing gays to adopt will be the downfall of our country’s morals or that it is wrong.Homosexual parents will always teach kids how to accept people from any category regardless of race, religion, sexual-orientation, creed, political status etc. In an autonomous way of thinking supporting the Autonomous Thesis.
Tolerance and acceptance is a key ingredient here. A child knows love by their parents’ welcoming actions and treatment, regardless of their sexual orientation. Just eke Each Walls said “I’m sure we’re going to hear a lot of testimony about how damaging having gay parents is on kids. But not once have I ever been confronted by an individual who realized independently that I was raised by a gay couple.
And you know why? Because the sexual orientation of my parents has had zero impact on the content of my character. ” Happiness is a universal right that every child in this world IS and should be entitled to. According to Pajama in “An Introduction to Ethics, How En Should Live”, Ethical Relativism teaches us that the validity of moral Judgments depends on cultural acceptance. Here in the US, the gay rights movement has been changing dramatically and each day people are in favor of gay marriages as well as allowing such couples adopt children.
