As a reader

As a reader, Anzaldua wants the audience to experience what she encountered as a chicano or an american who speaks different languages. In “How To Tame A Wild Tongue,” Anzaldua describes how she wasn’t allowed to speak her dialect except english or how she was viewed based on her culture or heritage. In the text it was said, ” If you want to be American speak ‘American.’ If you don’t like it, go back to Mexico where you belong.” The reason behind this was Anzaldua corrected her teacher on how to pronounced her name and she was sent to the corner of her classroom because she talked back to her teacher. I believe Anzaldua wants the readers to feel how she feel like trying to learn a language that wasn’t her
