Factors Affecting the academic performance of working students Chapter Introduction The financial burden of education fees are rising. Due to the continues increasing price of tuition fees, school fees and other education finances, families tend to face financial crisis particularly on managing the budget of the family income. These includes the budget for food, education, electricity bills and other financial bills. The family is unable manage it all since their income is incapable of affording those bills especially the valuable price on education finances.
Considering hose facts, students affected by the crisis experience by their family, students will be obliged to work while studying. Part time Job may affect students’ academic performance. Working several hours a day consumes a lot of time and one might too exhausted to study. The main purpose of school life for teenagers is to prepare them for their future. Working while studying will deprive their time of sleep and will do harm to their health. Teenagers are in the process of building up their body.
They need time to exercise and engage in other activities, they also need plenty of rest. If they work, they may sacrifice their time for sleep and school activities. On the other hand it can teach them to wisely use and manage their money for they go out into the real world. It helps them to mature and to realize they need a Job and an education to succeed in the real world. It also help them to decide what type of business they want to get in the future. Unmotivated students might neither work for pay nor receive good grades because they put little effort into the labor market or school.
In contrast, students uninterested in academic might work long hours that would otherwise have been devoted to leisure. Students might underestimate the link between college and future earnings. Another factor is students who have no relatives or family who aspire to fulfill studies prefer to be a working student unless they’re students who comprise scholarship. That’s why the family has a great role of encouraging the students to do well at school and work. Other reason why student Jobs are popular among students is they help top cope up with the constant increase in tuition fees.
Students choose to work while studying so that they can earn money to support their Conceptual Framework This study is based on the concept that academic performance of the working students under the tertiary level of education have to deal with primarily due to their nature of responsibilities. The different factors affecting the academic performance of working students to name some are personal, family, peers and various academic requirements and financial aspects.
As a working student will have to shoulder in order to pass their teachers, peers, guardians, and parent’s expectation as identified by the researcher include the following: demands of their professors, organizational demands, personal/family demands and demands at work. This study is limited to the Working students currently enrolled in Ramona Mainstay Technological University, Located in the town of Bib, province of Gambles, for the school year 2013-2014.
Significance of the Study The study will serve as s reference for the students, teacher and parent’s to better understand the factors that affects the academic performance of a working student. To Students, this will provide them encouragement and motivation especially those who are financially distressed to pursue and finish a college degree in order to be competitive in the future and be able to realize their and aspirations. To Parent’s, this will give them idea on how or what are the proper goals ways of encouraging their children to practice a good study habits while working.
To Teachers, this will help them to understand their students that are engaging in work while studying. Definition of Terms Oblige-it refers to place under a debt of gratitude for some benefit, favor or Service. Leisure- it refers to freedom from time-consuming duties, responsibilities, or activities. Teenager- it referee to a person between the ages of 13 and 19 inclusive. Academic Performance – it refers to how well one does in school.
