I have chosen to compare two4 resorts on the Island of Kos for my application of number and will compare these on price and facilities to see which the best is but also the most value for money. I want to go to the island of Kos because the weather there is usually very warm and sunny which is perfect for a relaxing holiday. I am going to compare the prices for a family of five for a week’s stay on the island and cross reference this information with the rainfall and temperatures for that time of year to try and find the best time to go as far as price and weather.I am also going to get the price of car hire on the island for the holiday because I want to be able to travel around the island to be able to see the whole island and enjoy all the activities that it has to offer no matter where it is on the island.
I am going to take 700 spending money as this should be more than enough for my holiday. There are lots of historical sites on the island which I want to go and see. The holiday will be for a family of 2 adults and 3 children.Mean, Median, ModeI will calculate the mean median and mode prices for the hotels I am going to research.
I am going to do this because: the mean will give me an idea of which holiday is overall the cheapest throughout the year. The median will give me the midway price of the peak season. The mode will help me to see what prices are most common and then I will be able to choose which month is the best for that price.BackgroundKos is the third largest island in the Dodecanese after Rhodes and Karpathos, lying close to the Asia Minor coast.Kos offers a healthy mild climate most of the year.
Along with the Greek sunshine and the marvellous golden beaches makes Kos an international tourist centre and one of the most attractive and beautiful of the Greek Islands. Kos is connected direct by air from many of the capitals of Europe, as well as from Athens and Rhodes. There are ferries to Kos from most Greek islands.Annual TemperatureFrom the graph above you can see that the warmest temperatures are in June, July and august. The Minimum temperatures of these months are also fairly high so these months would be the best time to go to the island of Kos as far as the weather is concerned.
Annual RainfallFrom my research I have seen that the most amount of rainfall is in the winter months which is the off peak season. As I want a sunny and warm holiday I am going to go in the summer months.Sophia Beach HotelThis lovely complex focus’s around its palm island pool and sun terrace. A poolside bar serves drinks and snacks. There’s a splash pool and satellite TV. A child day care service is offered. There is a restaurant in the hotel offering food of a very high quality from 6am to 11:30pm.
There are taverns, bars, supermarkets, mini markets and discos are within 500 metres from the resort. It is the perfect base for those wanting to combine a beach holiday with nightlife. A variety of water sports can be found on the beach just minutes away. A well lit path leads to the accommodation.Prices for 2 adults 3 children to stay at the Sophia Beach HotelThe prices of the stay at the hotel ranges from roughly 1250 to 1650. The prices peak in the school term holidays and in the July and August months when the weather is at its best. As far as price is concerned it would be better to go in an off peak time such as May time.
Aquis Marine Resort ; Water ParkIt’s a modern hotel ideal for families. It’s a self contained complex and a cosy feel. There is a range of activities to suit all ages. The complex consists of four pools and is the paradise for families with kids and teenagers. It is strategically located in the centre of the resort, right in front of the beach, and is supervised by a lifeguard. At Aquis Marine Resort ; Water park main restaurant you can enjoy freshly made healthy dishes of Mediterranean and International cuisine and of course kids as well as vegetarian menus.
There is a sushi bar and a bar serving cocktails and drinks until 12:00am.Prices for 2 adults 3 children to stay at the Aquis Marine Resort ; Water ParkThe prices of the Aquis Marine Resort and Water Park vary from 1900 to 2600 roughly. The highest prices again coincide with the school term holidays and at peak season when the weather is at its best. Again as far as the price is concerned it is best to go in off peak time such as May but at the expense of the weather. The two HotelsThe Aquis Marine Resort and Water Park is more expensive than the Sophia Beach Hotel and this is because there is a water park included in the accommodation which really increases the price a lot. Apart from the water park the two hotels have very similar amenities. I do not think the water park is worth spending the extra money on because both the children are of a young age and would be too young to use this facility so the Sophia Beach Hotel is a better choice for our family.Spending MoneyI have planned to take 700 ( 817.
76) spending money. I have allocated my spending money into the 5 main categories that I think I am going to use my money on. These are the essential things that I will use the main part of my fund on and I have estimated the cost of each.ConclusionFrom the brochure, I found the prices of an adult to stay for a week at the two hotels. The prices of 1st child and 2nd child were given so using this information, I multiplied the adult price by two then added the price of the 1st child and the price of the remaining two children at the 2nd child rate multiplied by two. I then checked my calculations by reversing the functions used; this got the amount back to the original adult price. I then knew my calculations were correct.I also research the price of car hire on the island.
I decided that with my 700 spending money that a Fiat Punto would be the best choice. On the website the price (228.13) was in Euros for a week. To convert it into pounds I found out the exchange rate which was at the time 1 = 0.856 then I multiplied the exchange rate by the price of the car hire and got 195.
28. Again, to make sure of my calculation I reversed the sum by dividing the price in sterling by the exchange rate and I came back to the price in Euros. The resort is 10 miles from Kos town which is where I will use the car.
There are historical sites to see here and a traditional market and shopping centre. The resort is within 100m from the beach and within the complex there is a palm island pool, a swim-up bar and a children’s play area. From what I have researched, I can see that most of the enjoyable activities for my family are either in the resort or within 10 miles of the resort.
I have researched the two different places and have decided to choose the Sophia Beach Resort. I have chosen this hotel because it has very similar amenities to the Aquis Marine Resort apart from its much cheaper and the extra facilities that are included in the Aquis marine Park would not be of use to our family as the children are too young to use them. The hotel is only 2.3 miles away from the airport and 10 miles from Kos Town. I have chosen to go on the 2nd July- 8th July. I have chosen to go at this time because it’s a compromise between the good temperature, weather and the price.
After looking at the rainfall and temperature chart I saw that even though it isn’t the hight of peak season, the temperature is still about 30C. The price of the family stay in the resort and flights is 1,387 for 1 week. (All flights are included in the price of the hotel through the travel agents)The total cost of the holiday is going to be 1,582.28 including accommodation car hire and flights. My holiday in the Sofia Beach Resort will take place between the 2nd July and 8th July.
I chose this resort because it is the cheaper of the two hotels and it has the best facilities for a family holiday. The beach is within walking distance and there are plenty of facilities close by to keep children and adults entertained. It is also closer to the airport than the other hotel so we will not lose holiday time travelling. I will take lots of clothes which are light weight as the temperature promises to be around 30C. I will visit various towns around the island which are near my resort and use the car on the one day to travel further afield.
I will take part in water sports and a bit of shopping and just general holiday sunbathing. The activities I will be taking part in will be within 6miles of the resort and the hotel offers bus rides to these resorts that’s why a car is only needed for the one day.
