While some who do not have personal responsibility end up succeeding in life, success is less likely compared to people who have personal responsibility, as personal responsibility holds people accountable for their own well-being in all aspects of their lives. Success can include long-term academic, personal achievement, a positive attitude and behavior. Personal responsibility is being held accountable for all life decisions a people make for their own well-being and the outcome of all successes and failures (Merriam-Webster, 2013).
People who have personal responsibility have a better chance of succeeding in their schooling, career, and personal life. People will stay on task and be able to accomplish whatever life throws at them regardless of the outcome. When people have personal responsibility, they will have a better chance of a being a leader rather than a follower. Leaders not only lead themselves but they lead others as well. Individuals have to believe in themselves in order to take full control of their own personal responsibility. They have to know how to react and handle certain situations and realize that they are the only ones responsible for their own outcome. The relationship between personal responsibility and college success is a practice that needs to be put in place so results can be seen. Actions speak louder than words.
When a people practice personal responsibility, it helps them become self-sufficient and self-reliant in their college success. Personal responsibility comes along with many life aspects, but when it comes to college success, students will be able to stay focused and complete what is expected of them with personal achievement.Time management is a good practice for personal responsibility as well as attitude and behavior. Balance is important when it comes to personal responsibility and college success (Stafford, 2006). Students need to be able to balance their college success with their personal life. Commitment and responsibility ensure a rewarding outcome in college success.
Students also need to be able to recognize that challenges will be presented to them, but anyone can over come any challenge or obstacle presented to them if they rely on themselves to jump that hurdle by having patience and responsibility (Keeley, 1997).A preliminary plan to practice personal responsibility in education would be to implement strategies that relate to personal responsibility. A person with personal responsibility can time manage by setting aside time for his or her education by allowing time for preparation, completion, and achievement. Another strategy would be to plan ahead with their college success by focusing on their future by what they will gain from their college success by holding themselves accountable.Students should sets goals for themselves and hold themselves accountable for reaching personal achievement by attending class regularly, turning in assignments on time, and collaborating with other students and instructors (O’Hara, 2005). Goals and accountability will ultimately help students reach their goals in a successful manner. Strategies that students implement will help them stay on task while pursuing their education because of holding themselves accountable.
While some may believe anyone can succeed without having personal responsibility it is unlikely the vast majority will succeed without personal responsibility because personal responsibility makes the person accountable and without accountability there is no responsibility. In conclusion, although some who do not have personal responsibility succeed, personal responsibility holds a person accountable to themselves for two main reasons. First, practicing and seeing results with personal responsibility. But most importantly, people who have personal responsibility succeed in their personal life and education.Personal responsibility is a tool that any individual should own when it comes to his or her daily life and education. Everyone needs to be and should be held accountable for their actions which include success and failure. Only one person can make that decision and no one can make it for him or her.
This is why personal responsibility is so important to implement in all aspects of life. Think about if you were working on a school essay, project, or an assignment and you had team members that had to work on this with you and part of your grade came from their part. Now, if this person had no personal responsibility and therefore did not come through on his or her part of the assignment, because of lack of responsibility and accountability and your grade suffered from it, would you want that person on your team? Most would want people that had personal responsibility so they would know they could count on them to come through for you and/or the rest of the team. I would choose the person with personal responsibility without a shadow of doubt. Why should my grade suffer because of someone who slacked?ReferencesDefinition of Personal Responsibility. (2013).
