Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper in which you summarize the major assumptions and fundamental questions associated with psychological testing. Address the following in your paper: •Define the term test.•Describe the major categories of tests and identify the major uses and users of these tests.

•Compare and contrast the concepts of reliability and validity and discuss how they affect the field of psychological testing. Psychological tests come in many shapes and forms; all of them are set to measure the performance of the person taking them. Reliability and validity take place in testing, both are important but it should be noted there could be no validity without reliability. The reliability and validity of psychological testing affect the field because the psyche of the human mind is too intricate to be fully understood. TestA test can be anything that is used to measure the performance, validity, reliability, or quality of an item. It can also be considered to be a procedure used for critical evaluations of the subjects at hand.

Some examples of this would be using a test to determine the eyesight of a person. A psychological test is an instrument created to help researchers learn about the human mind and human behaviors. Psychological tests are more like questionnaires in which the test taker can answer the questions depending on his or her mood. In order for a psychological test to be considered valid it must be both valid and reliable. The first is the mental ability test, this tests contains a large variety of cognitive functions such as special visualization, memory, and creative thinking (Hogan, 2007).

Its subsections can be broken down into group administered tests, individually administered tests, and other abilities tests. This type of testing is best used in a group setting such as the classroom where it can gauge the people’s mental ability with typical subjects in school.Achievements tests are next; these types of tests are specific to certain skill sets or knowledge of particular areas. Achievement tests can be broken down into subgroups of certification and licensing, individual achievement tests, batteries, government-sponsored programs, and single subject tests (Hogan, 2007). Achievement tests can be broken down into three sections; the single subject section, multiple subject sections, and certifications. Single subjects are broad such as psychology, multiple subjects include such subjects as math, language, and science, and the certifications are associated with certain fields such as nursing.

Personality tests are the next group of psychological tests. These types of tests are designed to find out more information about a person’s personality. The personality tests are given in a true/false formatting and try to find responses for levels of depression or eating disorders. Last in the category is neuropsychological testing. This type of testing was created to find out information about a person’s central nervous system, more specifically the human brain. Neuropsychological tests are typically a combination of other tests such as personality tests and ability tests.
