Smart cities represents the overall development in urban model utilizing human, and technological enhancement leading to an increase in economic and social opportunities. However, the significant challenges were observed with the rise of smart cities. Therefore, to overcome these shortcomings in the smart cities several security techniques such as Dynamic data encryption strategy, power mixing algorithm, attitude-based encryption model, support machine vector algorithms have been implemented in recent researches. Thus, the proposed study performs a comprehensive review on the diverse approaches used in the mitigating crime scenarios in Smart cities and in maintaining the integrity of the data. From this review, it is ascertained that techniques such as Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm and Data encryption scheme addresses meticulous crime strategy in comparison to conventional optimization techniques based on robustness and efficiency.
