Social class is the way of grouping people together according to the jobs they do. The government use the register generals table of social class witch I have outlined below.
Types of jobs people do
1. Highly skilled non manual
2. Skilled non manual
3. Skilled non manual
4. Highly skilled manual
5. Skilled manual
6. Unskilled manual
Lawyers, Doctors, Dentists
Managers, teachers, nurses
Office workers, administrators
Drivers e.g., lorry, taxi, bus, builders
Refuse collectors, cleaners
Highly skilled non manual – lawyers, doctors, dentist
All the careers in this category are very highly skilled and also very highly paid. The advantages of the growth of the child might be that might have a good upbringing like a big house with a garden to play, a healthy diet with the all the right kinds of nutrients, which means that they’ll physically grow well because they would be eating all the right kinds of food because its highly unlikely of a parent with this kind of job that they’ll struggle financially. Children might also go to a private school or a normal school that’s close to home which means this will be good for their interlectual development. The disadvantages might be that children might get neglected and feel like they’re not getting enough love from parents.
Skilled non manual – Manager, Teachers, nurses
All these careers in this category are highly skilled and are highly paid also. Children in these families might live in a big house with a garden to play, they might have a healthy diet which again is good for the physical growth of the child, they might also be able to go to a private school or go to a school nearby to their home which again is good for the interlectual development, and yet again the disadvantages might be that children are feeling neglected and not enough love from parents.
Skilled non manual – office workers, administrators
The careers in this category is still quite skilled and can also be highly paid but it varies to what type of office work it is, children might live in a house with a garden or in a house with a garden or in a nice flat, their food diet might be good and healthy but also if the parents struggle financially then because all the right kinds of foods might not be able to be bought children might not have the best die and this wouldn’t be very good for the physical growth of the child, but then again it could be different if the parents are getting enough income. For the interlectual development Depending on the parent’s income the child might go to private school or a school near to their home and also if the child isn’t eating well enough then it might be hard concentrating at school, if the parents can’t afford a house or the rent of a flat nearby to a school, then it would be difficult for the child which means they could be late a lot of times and this wouldn’t be good for the attendence. But then again parent ight be able to afford it.
Highly skilled manual – plumbers, electricians
These cares in this category is still a skilled manual and it can vary on the income depending on how high the skills are. The children might still have a healthy food diet but if the parents are under skilled and paid then they might financially struggle, witch means children might not get enough nutritional goodness. This would affect the childs physical growth and also their intellectual development, if they don’t get enough of the right kinds of nutrition. The parents might not be able to afford a big house or flat near a school witch would make things harder for children to get to school and back which would be bad for the attendance.
Skilled manual – Drivers, lorry, taxi, bus drivers, builders
The careers in this category aren’t as highly paid as the other four but the income is alright. Parents might not be able to afford a big house with a garden, they might have to rent a house or a flat, flat could be over crowded and cramped witch might affect children. Children might lack a healthy diet because parents might not be able to afford good food and fast food and junk food is cheaper to buy, this would affect the growth of the child because it wouldn’t be the right kinds of goodness going in. Because of the poor diet concentrating and doing well at school could be hard and this isn’t very good for the the interlectual development of the child, if the flat or house isn’t near to a school then it would be difficult for child. And again because children might be late a lot, the attendance wouldn’t be so good.
The careers in this category are jobs that are unskilled and no experience or qualifications are required. The pay isn’t very good it’s quite low. Parents might financially struggle to provide for the children, they might not have a very good upbringing; they might have to live in a small cramped flat or house because parents might struggle with money, gas and heating bills might not have got paid, and this means the house might be cold. The children might not be able to eat all the right nutrients and have a healthy routine diet this means that this would affect the physical growth and also the interlectual development, lack of concentrating at school. Children’s school could be far from their home so getting their might be difficult, which isn’t good for the attendance.
