The Era of Good Feelings was an era in time during James Madison’s presidency in which people were stimulated by events that occurred in 1815 through 1825: the creation of a one-party system, the Protective Tariff of 1816, etc. Although there were many good feelings, there were bad ones lurking, waiting to make an appearance during the 1824 campaign. After the war of 1812, the United States was in a period of economic problems, political turbulence, and a mixture of rapid expansion and division. Many celebrated the ending of the war, but others felt they carried a burden due to the problems it left behind.
