The movie “Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson story” is a true story about a man named Benjamin “Ben” Carson who suffered poverty, racism, and a bad temper to become a renowned neurosurgeon. When he was kid, he was the last in his class and never thought he would be able to become a much known neurosurgeon. His mother urged him and his brother Curtis to start reading books. Ben’s mom becomes depressed, and goes to a psychiatric hospital to ease her suicidal thoughts. As Ben continues to read and do reports as his mom told him to, he moves from the bottom of his class to the top. I believe Ben Carson has made many accomplishments in life. Keep reading to see my perspective on what he has done.
To me, the part that inspired me most was when Ben’s mom told him, “You can do anything that anyone else can do, only you can do it better.” It helped Ben keep going when he felt like giving up. He looked up to her. I think he wanted to show here that he may have obstacles through life, but he can always go around then. She said this to boost his confidence, and help him be the best he can be. As he gets more and more into the medical field, he discovers that his brain is more intelligent and creative than he ever thought it could be. His discovery, the miracle of the human brain, is what shapes his future and shapes out what he will be doing as a career.
