Why we as Belizean should agree or disagree to vote “yes” or “no” to take the Guatemalan claim to the International Court of Justice to put an end to all the differences that will determine the boundaries of the respective territories and areas of each country. It’s very important either vote “yes” or “no” in Belize’s referendum to take the Guatemalan Claim to the ICJ because this will make Belize safe and secure from those Guatemalan foreigners. For those people who don’t know what ICJ mean it’s simply stand for International Court of justice and it is chief judicial agency of the United Nations, established in 1945 to decide to settles legal disputes between nations. I agree and vote yes that Belize need to end this dispute by going to ICJ. To show Guatemala that it is stupidity that after 32 years of Belize independence they are absurdly holding the territorial claim to Belize.However, Guatemala is far from recovering half of Belize. In this paper I will go more in debt in history of Belize’s territory and the origins of the claim, the treaties and negotiations between the two countries and why our vote is truly important.
